Centraal Museum Utrecht has the largest Rietveld collection in the world and owns ten of his iconic slatted chairs. Never before has research been done into the age of these chairs. Are they early or late? And which copy was performed by whom? By Rietveld himself, by his regular carpenter Gerard van de Groenekan who realized many of Rietveld's designs or by others? And what does that say about the originality of the furniture?

The centenary of the slatted chair is reason to delve deeper into the origin, material and technique of these chairs to arrive at an accurate dating. Each copy has its own unique history. This film was commissioned by the Centraal Museum Utrecht.
